“With a musical career spanning over twenty years and more than one hundred releases, Héctor Sandoval (one half of Exium) is deep into a new project.
Tensal is both his stage name and the label that will accommodate most of this new work, which focuses on a brand of techno that is more modern and cyclic, and based on classic synth lines. Two different visions of underground techno merging into one project whose first releases have been backed by some of the most renowned underground techno DJs of the world.”
Listen now to our pick of the week and Tensal’s latest work on Pole Group.
Tracklist: Tensal – Cause Effect EP (PoleGroup039, PoleGroup)
A1 Cause 1
A2 Cause 2
B1 Effect 1
B2 Effect 2
A1 Cause 1
Distinctive overlay of the different patterns: percussions, background synth, sub bass. The weighty kickdrum holds everything tight and in order, every element knows where it belongs. The structure results in a splendid groove plus a skillful build atmosphere.
A2 Cause 2
Even with a reduced set of sounds and instruments, Sandoval creates a tremendous tension. Distorted synth bleeps and the mighty kick fill the space and complete the track.
B1 Effect 1
The driving forces are deep within this tune, another thoughtful and spare use of hats and shakers. The flanging synth fits seamlessly into that minimal framework.
B2 Effect 2
The grand final … the groove hits you right in the face and builds up over time with an ever evolving synth modulation. You are prepared for the second wave, and loose yourself in this mainfloor madness.
Conclusion: Advanced techno story telling, flawless use of the percussions. World-class and out of this world at the same time.
