Charles Green – Routes (Hardgroove, HG027)

Brighton’s Charles Green makes his debut on Ben Sims’ Hardgroove imprint this summer with ‘Routes’, four hardware jams which display his love of classic techno sounds.

Green has made his name as a resident at Brighton’s lauded Pattern’s venue, where his own night First Floor has been responsible for flying the techno flag on the UK’s South coast in recent years. With just handful of releases under his belt, he’s a producer that has focussed on learning his craft and, on ‘Routes’, it shows.

From the rowdy, evolving stabs of ‘Rave No Name’ and ‘Strange Leader’ to the break driven ‘Musikbox’, previously seen on Sims’ 2018 ‘Tribology’ comp, ‘Routes’ sees Green explore the relationship between UK rave sounds and classic, raw techno with ease. Closing out the EP with ‘Routes’, the deft producer also displays a canny knack for depth and melody within his style too.
