Carlo Gambino – we_r_house #7 (we_r house, WRH07)

Pick of the weekend: Carlo Gambino – we_r_house #7 (we_r house, WRH07)

Cithie’s we_r house returns January 2020 with its seventh release, a four-track EP coming courtesy of Carlo Gambino.

Leeds born producer and DJ Carlo Gambino has become a name synonymous with deeper leaning house from the UK over the past decade, releasing his material via the likes of 3am Recordings, Zingiber Audio and his own Midnight Social Recordings and Amongst Others. Here though we see him joining Cinthie’s we_r house, following releases on the label from Kevin Over, Alessio Viggiano and Toman.

‘Dance For You’ opens the release, combining a snaking sub bass line with swinging organic drums and an infectious filtered vocal line meandering throughout amongst the groove-driven composition. ‘We Had To Do This’ is up next, this time round employing bumpy drums, resonant bass whirrs, dubbed out stab sequences and similarly infectious vocal additions to continue the hypnotic groove focused aesthetic.

Opening the flip-side of the EP is ‘The Sermon’, taking things deeper via an amalgamation of airy chord stabs, low-slung drums, robust bass and preacher spoken word. ‘Trust Me’ then rounds out the release, laid out over six minutes with skippy percussion, dynamically delayed synth shots, voice murmurs and a resonant acidic bass hook.
