Matthew Styles – Metro (Ostgut Ton, o-ton 098)

Mmmmh, it’s Friday again. So I picked something special for the weekend, and my choice fall onto Matthew Styles debut on Ostgut Ton. We Berliners know him from the Panorama Bar, where he plays since several years, and as a mixing engineer and mastering wizard he gained a huge reputation over the years. Resident Advisor wrote this inspirational profile of him – definitely worth reading if you want to gain insights about the music industry, how to finish your mix and some mastering voodoo. Good guy.
Tune out reality and dive into the weekend with Matthew Styles ‘Metro’ on Ostgut Ton, o-ton 098.

Tracklist: Matthew Styles – Metro (Ostgut Ton, o-ton 098)

01. Metro
02. Wave 6
03. Border

01. Metro
Uptempo phaser filter chase. The melody slows down the hunt. Effects are dancing with the arpeggiator.
Metro is a distorted beauty, the ones, which we all love.

02. Wave 6
Fantasia. Harmonious, profound, prompting melancholic feelings. But never sad.

03. Border
Floating in repetition, dub tech like. Cuts of orchestral sounds and bright warm synth shots. And then, out of nowhere this radiant and graceful organ appears, disguised as string in the beginning. A divine moment.
You hope in vain for the return.

Conclusion: What can you expect, when a guy who mixes and masters the music of the top tiers in this industry, creates his own portrayal of this musical landscape?
Yes, friends: Magic.
