Obscure Shape & SHDW – Himmel Und Erde EP (Rekids, REKIDS104)

Auswahl der Woche:
Obscure Shape & SHDW mit Himmel Und Erde EP auf Rekids, REKIDS104.

Pressetext (nur in englisch):
German duo Obscure Shape & SHDW drop three robust Techno tracks in their first full release on Rekids this May.

One of the most exciting acts in Techno today, Obscure Shape & SHDW are the founders of From Another Mind – the label and party series making waves in South-Germany. Aside from Rekids, where they remixed Radio Slave’s ‘Vision’ last year, the pair’s abilities in the studio have seen them invited by Slam for two separate remixes of Monoloc and Envoy on Soma, with more projects to be announced.

‘Himmel Und Erde’ is a cavernous cut boasting colossal kicks and skipping percussion before a tantalising melody comes into play. ‘Am Ende Der Welt’ is more deep and atmospheric in comparison, blending dusky percussion with echoing synths until ‘Gefallene Engel’ demonstrates syncopated drums and an otherworldly hook that conjure up a mesmerising aesthetic to conclude the release.

Tracklist: Obscure Shape & SHDW – Himmel Und Erde EP (Rekids, REKIDS104)

A1: Himmel Und Erde
B1: Am Ende Der Welt
B2: Gefallene Engel

VA – Secret Weapons Part 2 (Wolfskuil Records, WOLF038)

Auswahl der Woche:
Doka, Cadans & Kracht, Tim Wolff mit Secret Weapons Part 2 auf Wolfskuil Records, WOLF038.

Pressetext (nur in englisch):

The latest compilation from Dutch imprint Wolfskuil Records offers up three more ‘Secret Weapons’ continuing the series with four artists already well at home on the label. As the title suggests, each track is a heavy-hitter, but as a whole this release acts as a showcase exposing three very different approaches to peak-time techno.

Doka marks his return on Wolfskuil Records with ‘Inure’ starting things off with a pummeling introduction full of wavering energy, tense murky depths, and a startling synthline. A much rougher, more distorted cut appears on the flip-side with Cadans & Kracht ‘Lompret’ summoning up warehouse memories with its echoing rough percussive hits that clamour for attention over an overdriven, crunchy backdrop.
The final track by Tim Wollf ‘Overt Agent’ builds up from dense, groove-ridden beginnings into a climactic crowd pleaser, with a progressive surge of energy fed alongside a Detroit-inspired arrangement.

Tracklist: VA – Secret Weapons Part 2 (Wolfskuil Records, WOLF038)

A1 – Inure written & produced by Doka
B1 – Lompret written & produced by Cadans & Kracht
B2 – Overt Agent written & produced by Tim Wolff

Michael Barenboim – Bach, Bartók, Boulez @Pierre Boulez Saal

DJ Deep – DJ Deep Cuts Remixes Vol.1 (Deeply Rooted, DRH054)

Auswahl der Woche: DJ Deep mit DJ Deep Cuts Remixes Vol.1 auf Deeply Rooted, DRH054.

Pressetext (nur in englisch):
Mr G, Ben Sims, Roman Poncet and Steve Rachmad feature in Volume 1 of DJ Deep’s ‘Cuts’ remix series on Deeply Rooted.

DJ Deep is a renowned DJ, producer and A&R, who’s prominent career exceeds well over two decades, however his renewed focus on studio output makes him one of today’s most exciting figures pushing boundaries in house and techno. After a break from the studio the Parisian artist returned in 2014 releasing the first instalment of his ‘Cuts’ series on his reputable imprint Deeply Rooted, with subsequent releases arriving on Tresor and Rekids. He’s now tapped up four masterful names for the first in a series of heavyweight remix packages.

Mr G instils his signature raw and robust aesthetic to ‘Surge’ with his ‘Protected Dub’; a rumbling house number with infectious percussive hits, a looped vocal sample and penetrative keys. Steve Rachmad’s version of ‘Surge’ is more faithful to the original but twists its key elements to generate a more low- slung and mesmerising reinterpretation.

Ben Sims reimagines ‘Stressin’’ to form a ruthless and high-octane workout with cavernous kicks and metallic synths that hammers forward, before Roman Poncet remixes ‘New Horizons’ into a punchy slice of techno, mixing elements of the original track with another ‘Cuts’ series track, ‘Steps’.

Tracklist: DJ Deep Cuts Remixes Vol.1 (Deeply Rooted, DRH054)

A1 – Surge (Mr G Protected Dub)
A2 – Surge (Steve Rachmad Remix)
B1 – Stressin (Ben Sims Remix)
B2 – New Horizons (Roman Poncet ‘Steps’ Remix)

Lisa Lashes – Hey Yeah EP (Intec Digital, ID128)

Unsere Wahl fürs Wochenende:  Lisa Lashes mit Hey Yeah EP auf Intec Digital, ID128.

Pressetext (nur in englisch):
Carl Cox is an industry figurehead who’s legacy in music includes his iconic label Intec, which he runs with friend and business partner Jon Rundell.

Intec has been running for well over a decade and its back catalogue includes Techno focused releases that have featured artists including Nicole Moudaber, Christian Smith, Mark Reeve, Kevin Saunderson, Ben Sims, Pig&Dan, Joseph Capriati and Josh Wink.

The label has played a large role in the careers of many artists who have worked with the label regularly, and the new Intec release is from a DJ legend who is expressing the other side of her diverse music taste.

Lisa Lashes is a DJ who at the peak of her career was one of the world’s most popular club headliners, often voted one of the best club spinners in DJ Mag’s coveted World’s Top 100 DJ’s pole.

Known for her hard and energetic sound she has translated her style into dark and twisted Techno, a style similar to artists like Adam Beyer and Sian.

“Hey Yeah” is dancefloor focused Techno with dark atmospherics and powerful percussion. The rumbling bassline and hard hitting percussion lay a solid foundation to support the weight of the murky lead synth that’s full of menace. Powerful and dynamic, the track moves with the momentum of a freight train.

“Women Beat Their Men” takes its title from the prominent vocal sample. Crunching claps and a rolling bassline join a punchy kick drum to form the tracks pulsating groove. Deep pads erupt in explosive bursts and add to the track’s ferocious sound. Finished by the grinding tension of the breakdown, this is Techno done with style.

Israel Toledo – 9 Volts LP (ANALOGUE AUDIO, AA013.1 & AA013.2)

Wahl des Wochenendes: Israel Toledo mit 9 Volts LP  auf ANALOGUE AUDIO (AA013.1 & AA013.2)

Pressetext (nur in englisch):
It’s the third album on our label and this time we grabbed on the other side of the ocean! The mexican techno native Israel Toledo, who lives these days in Germany, is the man of now and gives us full-on electricity with – 9 Volts . Being effective with less is the formula which works definitely the most. So let’s have a short view on Israel: the fundament of his works were done by launching his own techno imprint Assasin Soldier Recordings in 2005 and releasing since more than one decade. Featuring lots of the mexicans underground music producers has gained a proper standing in many of the heavy-weight-players record cases.

The simplicity of the track names reflects the saying that techno music doesn’t need any words to communicate, so here we go with V1 (Volt 1) to V8. All tracks are designed by analogue machines and literally – made of steel , therefore it’s reasonably pressed on wax. The central themes are spheres and chords in various moods on pounding beats.

The start is something for the epic moments. V1 floats and flies on a sweet-sounding sphere, holds a warm appearance and can be called a real anthem. In the forthcoming tracks, he draws more dusky worlds and builds industrialized shapes and landscapes with rough chords. He varies with tensions in V2 and V3, soaring rhythms for V4 or creaking basses in V5 with timeless synth hooks, as well as a deep and dubby flavour for V6. Number 7 is definitely a peaktime ruler and the last one V8 for the atmosphere in the morning hours.
